Parks & Public Spaces :: Hurley Streetscape

Faced with the need to reconstruct their deep utilities and storm sewer system, the City of Hurley used the opportunity to explore changes to the pedestrian and vehicular circulation and the aesthetics of historic Silver Street.

Working with a citizen building committee, City Staff, and MSA Professional Engineers, SAS+Associates developed a number of concept plans for review and selection. The various plans included a “shopping list” of community needs, desires and City-required elements and priortized those elements within the design options.

The final prefered and constructed design included a new trailhead for the Ironhorse Trail, accent pavements, granite medallions, decorative lighting, wider sidewalks, planters, benches, landscape elements and alternatives for future development of vacant city lots. All this together has created a unique and improved streetscape environment for the City of Hurley.
